All is well in the land of the Falcons tonight . The young bucks down 1-0 in
their best of 5 semi final started a bit nervous in the first frame but
soon woke up in the second in scoring 5 big runs to lead 6-2 . From then on
strong steady pitching from sophomore Troy Nootchtai combined with timely
hitting and good defense helped the Whitefish Falcons score five more runs on
their way to a convincing 11-5 victory and tie their semi final at a game a
piece . The usually steady North Stars made 5 costly fielding errors and their
hitting wasn’t there when needed . As mentioned , Troy Nootchtai (1-1) went the
distance for the Falcons giving up but 5 hits , struck out 5 and issued but just
1 base on balls . He was steady and never got into any real trouble . For his
part this year’s rookie of the year Brad Matheson (0-1) of the North Stars went
the distance giving up just 6 hits , fanning 6 batters while issuing 4 base on
balls .Brad only had two difficult innings giving up 8 runs in the combined 2nd
and 3rd innings . Dustin Soucy led the Falcon charge going 1 for 2 a three run
blast to left field with teammates Brandon Biederman 2 for 4 (double) and Sid
Nebenionquit 1 for 4 ( 2 run homer) also hitting well . Chad St Cyr hit 1 for 2
a solo roundtriper in a losing cause for the North Stars .This series tied at
one game a piece resumes Monday night August 15th in Azilda at the Rick McDonald
Memorial Park in a 7 PM start and that will be followed in the nightcap at 9 PM
by a match between the Swick Hounds of Garson and the Pickerel River First
Nation Cardinals –this is the second game in this series also a best of five
with the Cardinals leading 1-0 .</DIV>
