Lancaster I - Game Recaps
Editor's note: Game
recaps are provided for miscellaneous games where information is
available.
If it seems that there is more
information for the Black Sox and Rounders, you're right, as I'm around to do the
Rounder recaps and Fred Hanker's Black Sox website provides theirs.
(Thanks, Fred) Because I am playing, I can't get to all of the games.
(And they take my PDA away in the bullpen)
We'll notate new additions to
this page as we go so that you can re-visit this page and know which ones
you haven't already read.
We'd love to include all of the
games, but need your help. If you have info, email us:

including anything showing as "n/a" (not
available) below.

Quoting from Fred
Hanker's
Black Sox website: "The nightmare
continued early sunday morning for the sox as they fell to raymar
10-2. Long beach scored their only 2 runs in the 4th on singles
by Fred Hanker, Dale Lopes and Brett Semans. Randy clay had a
rbi groundout and Derrick Harley had a sac fly. long beach finished
the tourney 0-4 and missed 6 starters due to injury and
unavailability. on a positive note manager fred hanker was encouraged
by the play of his young first time players Derrick Harley and Emir
Saffir. hanker stated," both of these guys can really help us in the
future. they are still learning the game and it situations like these
where we are short they are getting a lot of experience." hanker has
also been pleased with the play of shortstop Dan Fleming as he says of
Fleming," he has really been the glue to hold this team together. he
is not the prototypical leadoff hitter but he has excelled in that
spot and i am going to keep him there."
*Hanker 2-2, run

This one got a little
ugly. A 2-1 game until the 4th, the Amigos added two runs to
make it 4-1. Then in the 6th?, the Amigos blew it open with 6 runs to
make it 10-1, adding seven more in the next frame. Not clear
from the report why it was not called early as a mercy rule game.

The Fear jumped out to
a 1-0 lead in the first inning, leaving two men on as the inning
ended. The Rounders came right back with three runs in the
bottom of the first, as Eric Geierman, Mike Hemperly and Gerald Pyle
reached on walks, all coming home to score, two on a single by Jimmy
Crotzer, and one more on a single by Steve Tollington. The
Rounders added another in the 2nd when Eric Geierman walked again,
then tagged up from second base and scored on a long sac fly by
catcher Mike Hemperly. The Fear made a pitching change in the
4th, bringing Cecilio Smalling into the game, but the Rounders added
four more, one on an RBI single by Mark Villalobos and three more on a
home run by Donald Jewett. |

Recap |
Though I didn't get to
see this one myself, from the reports I've been receiving, this one
might have been the most exciting game of the tournament, one of two
tie breakers on Sunday. "Damo" Guerrero provided most of
the Raymar offense, starting with a searing gap shot over the second
baseman's head in the second that gave Raymar a early 3-0 lead.
Raymar led 3-2 going into the bottom of the 7th inning, but a Terry
Brightwell RBI single brought Brian Webb home from from 2nd with the
tying run.
In the top of the 8th,
Damian Guerrero hit a 3-run home run to give Raymar what appeared to
be a commanding 6-3 lead. But San Diego would not go quietly.
With brother Joe starting the inning at second base, Johnny Nuanez led
off with an RBI single to cut the lead to 6-4. Mike York then
singled, advancing Johnny Nuanez to second. Jay Crawley then
singled home another run, and sending Mike York to third, representing
the tying run -- and still no outs. Brian Webb flew out to
right field. The throw from right was wide, and Mike York came
across the plate with what appeared to be the tying run. But
Raymar appealed the play, and York was called out for leaving early.
So instead of a tie game, San Diego was down to their final out with a
runner at second. The next batter grounded out to first to end
the game and Raymar advanced to the Final Four. |

Recap |
Like the Raymar-San
Diego game, this one took a tie breaker to decide. The Amigos
outhit the Rounders 11-6, but the Rounders managed to turn several
walks into runs as well, and gain the win. The Rounders struck
first on a long 3 run home run by centerfielder Steve Tollington,
though the Amigos climbed back in on some timely hitting, and miscues
by the Rounders. Just when it looked like the Rounders had put away
the win in regulation, a two-out error followed by a key hit by pinch hitter
Julian Martinez tied the game for the Amigos. In the tie breaker, the Rounders scored two in the top of the inning, with Donald Jewett
hitting a long triple to bring home the tying run, then scored on a
ground out by John Simmers for the win. In the bottom of the
8th, the Amigos scored one run on Steve Patino's third hit of the day,
driving in David Saucedo, who reached on an infield single before
Mitch Mendenhall slammed the door shut, retiring the last two batters. |

Recap |
Raymar put this one
away in the first inning, scoring 6 runs on 9 consecutive hits for 6
runs. Ken Shaw led off with a bunt single. Roy Saucedo followed with a
bunt single. Both scored on a triple by Jason ("J-Rod)_Obregon.
JRod scored on an RBI single by Damian Guerrero, who then scored on a
single up the middle by Doug Shaw. Shaw scored on a single to
through the right side by Yogi Saucedo. Matt Shaw doubled home Yogi
for the 6th run of the inning. A couple of innings later,
Raymar's catcher, Phillip Palomino blooped an RBI single over Darryl
Goree's head for a 7-0 lead. Palm Springs got on the board
with two runs in the third inning, but Raymar added two more of their
own in the fourth and one more in the 5th for the final 10-2 margin of
victory. Jason Obregon and Damian Guerrero went 3-4, Yogi was 2-3 and
Ken Shaw 2-4. |

Recap |
In
the title game, the Rounders scored one in the first and two in the
second, to take a 3-0 lead. Raymar then tallied 4 runs in the
3rd inning, to take a 4-3 lead. The key blow in the inning was a
game tying, two-run triple by Doug Shaw that split the left center field gap.
With two out, Yogi Saucedo hit an infield fly that started at first
base and blew all the way back hear home plate and out of reach. On
the next pitch, Yogi hit a hard bouncer to third for a single, to
drive in Shaw and give Raymar the lead.
But the Rounders rallied for four of their own in the 5th on hits by
Jimmy Crotzer, Steve Tollington, Andy Lawry and Danny Roberts for the
final 7-4 margin of victory. |
