Primetime Fastpitch

So Cal ASA Alliance Team Page

For those to young to remember, Fred McMurray used to star in a popular television show called "My Three Sons. Primetime Fastpitch got its start with the west coast version of the show, which produced the nucelus of the team, the three Nuanez brothers, Johnny, Joe and Jaime. Formerly San Diego Fastpitch, he team has been among the top ranked teams in the Alliance for the past several years, and regular contender for the Alliance crown.

For 2005, the team has a new sponsor (Primetime) and some new faces.  Some around the league are calling it a merger, with the addition of four players from the nucleus of the Edge team, which finished 5th in the nation at last year's ASA "C" Nationals, and were subject to the "bump-up" rule, forcing top teams to move up a division if five or more players returned.  The newcomers are Jimmy Buentello (photo above) Keith Barker, Rich Barnwell, and Rick McCarthy.   The combination of top of the top teams from last year's Alliance will give opponents all they can handle.

Their ace, "Z-man", Dan Zupp (photo at left) is consistently among the league leaders in ERA, wins and innings pitched, giving the club the chance to win any game they play.   Zupp logs more innings in the Alliance than almost any other pitcher, and seems to thrive on being the "go-to" guy.  Zupp set an Alliance record in 2004 when he rattled off seventeen (17) consecutive wins.  Early in the season, when it appeared the Edge was going to run away with the league title, Zupp was the one who slowed the freight train with a key win.

A strong, well balanced club with fastpitch veterans like Woody Woodworth, Terry Brightwell, Mark Fry, Michael Romero, Mike York, and Brian Webb, San Diego is among the top teams in the Alliance, currently hovering near the top of the standings in 2004.  San Diego added Jay Crawley from Indiana a couple years back, bolstering their already potent offense, along with second year player, hard-hitting first baseman, Joe Fernandez.
