Playing a pair of five-inning games on Canada Day in Drayton, the South Perth All-Stars tied the three-time World Champions New Zealand Black Sox 2-2 in the opener and then dropped a 2-0 decision in the nightcap.
Sebringville’s Don Scott and Dan Martin, with the Elmira Expos, split the pitching duties in game one, while Heinie Shannon and Ben Enoka took the mound for the Black Sox. Kevin Gutscher of the Expos had a two-RBI triple to account for the South Perth runs.
In game two, Casey Halstead, of the Expos started for the All-Stars and struck out six in three innings of work. A throwing error helped lead to the two New Zealand runs. Fred Follings, of the Shakespeare Falcons, closed out the final two innings, giving up a triple to Brad Rona. Enoka started for the Black Sox and went three innings, followed by two innings from Marty Grant.
