The series that never seemed to end finally came to a close last night, which was a good thing as the weather forecasts in these parts, didn’t look good until the middle of next week.

The Kitchener Phoenix Outlaws defeated the Waterloo Classics in a slugfest, (to help recognize Oktoberfest in the area) by a score of 10-8.

Phoenix got right to work in the top of the first inning with 2 runs on a Tim Dubois walk and Mike Kelly Home Run (Mike hit for the cycle going 4-4 and scoring 3 times to lead the Phoenix attack.)

The Classics came right back in the bottom half of the first, scoring 4 runs courtesy of a 3 run blast by Don Stebbings

Second inning the Phoenix tied the score 4-4, before the Classics continued their torrid pace scoring 3 more in their half of the 2nd.

The 3rd, 4th and 5th innings were relatively quite for the Classics, while Phoenix added a run in the 5th to tied the game at 7 runs apiece.

Classics got the go ahead run in the 6th innings, and had Phoenix on the ropes with one out in the 7th, but Phoenix responded in typical never say die fashion with a 3 run shot by Jim Cullind to end the series and the year.

Mel Ross got the win for the Phoenix giving up 8 runs on 10 hits and recording 5 K’s

Peter Spitzig took the loss in relief on Stebbings – Spitzig gave up 3 runs on 2 hits and recorded 2k’s in 1 2/3 inning . Stebbings gave up 7 runs on 8 hits with 2 k’s in 5 1/3 innings.

The Waterloo Classics and the Kitchener Fastball League, Congratulates the Kitchener Phoenix Outlaws on their 3rd consecutive league championship!
