The weather fully co-operated (for the most part) during the 15th annual Mitchell Mets intermediate fastball tournament this past weekend.<\/p>\n
The tournament had some international flavour, with the Australian Under-19 team participating in preparation for their defence of the ISF Jr. Men’s championships in PEI June 24-July 3. Jet lag may have had some effect in their opening 4-2 loss to Chepstow Saturday, but the team never lost after that to win the ‘B’ championship, rallying for a 4-2 win over ISC II #40 Bridgeport Braves in the final. In between, the Aussies blanked Owen Sound Crunch 6-0, Blenheim 8-1 and ISC II #2 Harriston 3-1.<\/p>\n
All of this shouldn’t deter from the ‘A’ championship victory of the ISC II #1 Smully’s Tavistock Merchants, who won five consecutive games to win the top prize money. The Merchants opened with a 2-1 win over the Mitchell Parmalat Midgets Friday, and beat the Shakespeare Falcons 5-1, Waterloo Hallman Jr. Twins 3-2, ISC II #15 Port Elgin Blue Devils 2-1 and Waterloo once more in the final, 6-1.<\/p>\n
The Fullarton A’s captured the ‘C’ championship, ousting Milverton AW Millwrights 9-4 in the final.<\/p>\n
