Editor’s note: While we are talking about Fastpitch in the great Pacific Northwest, we want to mention the pending ISC Hall of Fame induction for the late Jimmy Dean of Seattle, Washington. His ISC Hall of Fame bio is below. I recall that 1990 SeaFirst team very well, as my Vista Bomber team travelled to Victoria that year, to play in our first ISC World Tournament. Jimmy’s Seafirst team was managed by, appropriately, Eddie Bomber. Traded him a Bomber jersey at the tournament for a Seafirst t-shirt.
I thought he got the better of me on the deal. Until they won it. Then I had a 1990 ISC World Champions Seafirst T-shirt 🙂
BOB WELBY MEMORIAL AWARD
Jim Dean, Seattle WA (deceased)
In 1980 Jimmy Dean took his Westside Federal softball club to the ISC World Tournament in Arizona, the inaugural year for the Norwest Area (WA/OR/ID & BC) to send teams to the World event. In 1981, the Norwest Major Fast-pitch League became a recognized ISC travel league. After three years with the Federals, Jimmy joined Bellevue Pay’n Pak and convinced the squad to go to the World Tourney in Kimberly WI in 1985 – they returned as World Champions. The team made appearances for twelve straight years, claiming the championship twice more (1986 as Pay’n Pak and 1990 as Seafirst). Jimmy was also a volunteer with the 1980 ISF World Championships in 1987 in Tacoma WA and served a three-year term as president of the Greater Seattle Fast-pitch Assoc.
