LAS VEGAS — After winning three straight Sunday games — one of them with a three-run, last-inning rally — to complete their comeback through the consolation bracket at the season-opening Road Trip VII men’s fastpitch tournament in Las Vegas, JRW & Associates of Yakima came into the championship game against unbeaten Page Brake of Salt Lake City needing to beat the Utah team twice.
Craig Snyder’s 3-for-4 game and Joey Robbins’ stingy seven-strikeout pitching got JRW & Associates the 7-2 victory in the first “title game,” but the Yakima team fell 12-6 in the finale to finish second in the tourney’s NAFA A-Major class.
Robbins had played a major role in JRW’s 4-3 victory over Oklahoma City, getting an RBI single and scoring the game-winning run on a wild pitch in a three-run, last-inning rally — and also finishing as the winning pitcher in relief after pitching to one batter in the top of the inning.
JRW went 6-2 over the weekend. On Sunday, Shortstop Mike Koentopp was 8-17 (.471), 7 RBI, 1 HR; Right Fielder Jason Grow was 7-15 (.467), 3 RBI
