YAKIMA, Wash. — Joey Robbins was named the tournament’s most valuable pitcher and Cody Wagner earned overall MVP honors as returning champion JRW & Associates swept five games to capture the Rose Cup fastpitch tournament in Portland over the weekend.
Robbins struck out 17 and allowed just one earned run in his 11 innings, while Wagner went 7-for-13 (.538) and drove in four runs, including a two-run, eighth-inning homer in a 4-3 victory over K-Club of Bremerton. Robbins was the winner in both that game and the title game, a 2-1 triumph over the C.R. Rockers of Portland that ended after four innings because of a torrential downpour.
For JRW & Associates (14-5 overall), the tourney championship over Fathers Day Weekend was appropriate: The team has three father-and-son combinations in the lineup.
