Editor’s note: Where is Guernsey, you ask? Guernsey, officially the Bailiwick of Guernsey, is a British Crown dependency in the English Channel off the coast of Normandy. More here.
Our friend Bernie Lopez has been to Guernsey, and is heading back next year: “The Island of Guernsey is a wonderful place and you cannot help falling in love with the place and it’s people! Next summer they will have an “80 years of softball” celebration.”
Click here for the draft fixtures for the fastpitch tournament taking place on the 13th and 14th September.
If there is a 4 team entry, games will be capped at 90 mins, allowing the next teams to warm up prior to their game.
If there is a 5 team entry, games will be capped at 1 hour 15 mins. This will allow teams to warm up, and also create the time to fit in all the games.
General Rules
All players wishing to enter the tournament must be registered with the GSA. This can done by filling out a registration form and stating the team they wish to play for during the tournament.
All players must wear batting helmets whilst batting and running to 1st base. No Exceptions!
There will be a team entry fee of £30.00 to cover the cost of the softballs.
All teams must provide base umpires/plate umpire when stated in fixture list.
The 10 run rule will count after 5 innings.
The GSA will take a relaxed view on pitchers, who are relatively new to fastpitch, to encourage them to “have a go”!
Players are encouraged to wear “long pants” when playing fastpitch, as you may find yourself in a position where you will be required to slide to a base – as we all know this can “pick a bit” when only wearing shorts!
Balls that are hit “over” the perimeter fence will be an automatic home run.
Teams will be able to make as many subs as they like during a game.
The GSA has kindly allowed teams to use the batting machine on the two Sundays (31st August & 7th September) prior to the tournament. Anyone wishing to use the machine will need to be a registered GSA player. Those who are not signed on can sign a registration form; this will also confirm what team players will be playing for during the tournament. Once this has been completed, players will be able to have use of the machine.
Batting helmets are to be worn during the practice sessions.
Sessions will be on the top diamond between 14:00 and 16:00 hrs.
