Editor’s note: For those who may not know of the storied career of Herb Wisdom, be sure to visit Bob Otto’s website, “Otto in Focus” for a great bio piece he penned about Herb back in 2010: “Someone to know: Herb Wisdom, Si Senor men’s fastpitch”
Among other things, Herb was the catcher for the legendary Long Beach Nitehawks. He remembered the Nitehawks manager Red Meairs fondly:
“Red was a great, great manager,” Wisdom said. “He told me something I never forgot. He said, ‘stay in shape, come ready to play, and be on time. See that guy up in the stands? He wants to be a Nitehawk, so you’d better hustle.’”
