(Day 6, Fri. Sept. 8) – ARG vs. VEN at 2pm CDT; USA vs. CAN at 5pm CDT (3pm PDT)
Just two games on tap today, Friday, September 8, the final round robin games at the WBSC U-18 Americas World Cup Qualifier. Both figure to be good games, with all four teams qualifying for the World Cup in Hermosillo Mexico in November 2023. (Top four of the six teams qualify). Newcomers Peru (1-5) and host Colombia (0-6) have completed the round-robin portion of their respective tournaments. (The two squared off on Day 1, with Peru coming away with a 8-7 win over host Colombia) The two will reprise that opening day game in the “5th vs. 6th” place playoff tomorrow.
Outstanding job of hosting by Colombia, with great, supportive crowds on hand all week.
The game of the day figures to be the 2pm CDT game between two teams tied for second place, Argentina and Venezuela, both with 3-1 records. Both teams lost to the leader, USA (4-0) , while both defeated Canada (2-2). The winner of Argentina vs. Venezuela will finish second with a 4-1 record and advance to the “1 vs. 2” playoff game tomorrow, Saturday, September 9.
