If their on-diamond play is as sharp as their off-diamond No1s, expect the Hawke’s Bay-dominated International Softball Academy’s under-14 boys side to return home from this week’s Australian trip unbeaten.
The team – which includes Saints pitcher Adam Woon, Fast Pitch second baseman Daniel Green, Maraenui Pumas first baseman Callum Carson, Fast Pitch catcher-second baseman Tridan Russell-McClutchie and Saints outfielder Kaine Cargill-Isaacs – flew to Sydney today to prepare for this weekend’s International Youth tournament at Blacktown Olympic Stadium.
Their side, which will be coached by former Softball New Zealand chief executive and board member Hadyn Smith, will play warm-up games tomorrow and Thursday and train Friday before their tournament starts on Saturday. Their tournament opponents are Japan Max Juniors, Canberra, Australia Country, Metro Royal from Sydney, Japan All Stars and Metro Gold from Sydney.
