The Duncan Outlaws opened their season up in Coldwater, MI at the Coldwater men’s fastpitch tournament over the weekend. After a rainy start to the day on Saturday morning, the rain cleared up and the 1st game was started under foggy conditions.
The Outlaws opened their season against the Thunder out of Michigan. After a rocky first inning in which the Thunder pushed across 6 runs, the Outlaws couldn’t come back against a good pitching performance by Thunder pitcher, Tyler Kelly. Marty Humphries took the loss, giving up 5 hits and striking out 2. All 6 runs in the 1st were unearned. Chris Hineline came in to throw the final two innings, allowing 2 hits and no runs. The Outlaws bats were alive and well in the opener as they rapped out 9 hits in the game, but just couldn’t string many together and hit the ball hard right at people (two innings ended in hard hits balls that doubled off runners). Adam Binkley (LF, 2B), Craig Foor (1B), and Brent Miller (RF) all had 2 hits apiece. One of Miller’s hits was a home run to left field, and he was credited with the Outlaws 2 runs scored. Final score was Duncan 2 and Thunder 6.
In the 2nd game on Saturday afternoon, the Outlaws were the home team against the Blues out of Michigan. Chris Hineline pitched a gem, going 5 strong innings with 10 strikeouts and only giving up 3 hits to the Blues. The Outlaws bats were once again alive as they pounded out another 7 hits to go with 5 walks. Adam Binkley (2B) and Chris Hineline (P) had two hits apiece, with both of them have LONG triples in the left-center gap. Binkley also had two RBI’s on the day to go with a run scored. Brent Miller (LF), Vince Cline (RF), Hineline, Lane Bender (PH), and Craig Scott had the other Outlaw RBI’s. Game note – – the game was cut short to 5 innings as the rains rolled in.
And the rains continued to stay into the evening on Saturday night and into Sunday morning, cancelling out the championship round of the Coldwater tournament. The Outlaws 2011 summer tournament schedule continues May 27th-29th at the Bay City, MI tournament.
