The 2011 Best of the West Tournament has been rained out. Sunday’s 8am games were played under scattered showers, but heavier rain caused the suspension of play mid-way through the 9:45 a.m. games at 10:30am. After an hour rain delay, the tournament committee declared the fields un-playable and the tournament called due to rain.
The Pala Braves were declared the Best of the West Champions for 2011, based on their 3-0 record Saturday. The California A’s and CR A1 Rockies were also 3-0 Saturday, but Pala edged out the A’s on run-differential. (Both Pala and the A’s surrendered one run, but Pala scored one more run, including 17 in one of their wins).
Todd Budke of the California A’s as named the Most Valuable Player for the tournament, going 6 for 9 with 7 RBI and 2 home runs. (7 for 9 on base). Sonny Perkins was named the Most Valuable Pitcher of the tournament with 2 wins on Saturday.
