Ballpark Radio’s coverage of the Ed McCormick Hall of Fame tournament concludes Sunday with the final two broadcasts of the tournament, at 10 AM and 12 noon Eastern time, featuring a semi final game and championship game.
The field of teams as the narrow to the final four, with the top seed from each of the two pools playing a number two seed from each pool at 10:00 AM Eastern.
The 10 AM broadcast will feature the # 1 and # 2 ranked teams in the world, the NY Gremlins and Hill United, who met three times at Ashland Ohio last week at the ASA Men’s Major National Championship. Hill United won the first of those three contests, in the winners bracket final of that tournament, with the New York Gremlins coming back to beat them twice on the final day of the term to win the national title.
Hill United suffered its first defeat of the Erie tournament’s last night, falling the to # 3 ranked Jarvis Travelers of Ontario Canada, 6-5 in eight innings, in a seesaw battle that may have been the best game of the tournament thus far. In that contest, after Jarvis took a 2-0 lead, Jason Hill tripled home two runs and Mark Johnson hit a two-run homer to give Hill United a 4-2 lead. Jarvis right fielder Ben Enoka ran into the right-field fence trying to get to Johnson’s home run, hitting his forehead on the fence and having to leave the game. Jarvis trim the lead to 4-3, and eventually tied it in the final inning, sending the contest to the international tiebreaker. Hill United scored one run in the top half of the eighth inning, but Jarvis’s Brandon Horn delivered the game-winning hit with two runners on for the victory, and giving them the top seed in their pool.
