Kent Campbell of Orangeville sent a note about this weekends league championships in Ponsonby. All 8 Intercounty teams will be on the twin diamonds at the Ponsonby Recreation Centre…Games begin Friday nite..
Here are the opening 4 games…for tonite…Friday at Ponsonby:
7:30 Grand Valley (2 – 19 ) vs Ponsonby (18 – 3)
7:30 Maryhill (9 – 11 ) vs Arthur 13 – 89:00 Rockwood (4 -16 ) vs Puslinch (18 – 3)
9:00 Dundalk (6 – 15) vs Orangeville ( 13 – 8 )
Games continue all day Saturday with championships Sunday at 10, 12 , 2 and 4 pm

ONTARIO CHALLENGE CUP – OHSWEKEN
The OCC is one of many routes to the ISCs and invites league champions from across Ontario to qualify early for next years ISC WT in Quad Cities iowa/Illinois. Last years champs Wiarton Nationals and the host Ohsweken Redmen have automatic berths. Entry fee is $285.
Scheduled for Lions park in Brantford the ISC 2012 Ontario Challenge Cup has moved to Ohsweken…(GPS locator 1738 4th Line Road, Ohsweken, ON. N0A 1M0
The organizers had “Significant difficulty with the city of Brantford regarding park rentals” this years OCC is set for Sept 14 – 16th… ISC Canada East is hoping to hear from all leagues regarding their entries today..August 24th.

Ontario teams made quite an impact at the recent ISCs in Midland Michigan…including these individual award winners…
Most outstanding Pitcher..(3 awarded, 2 won by Ontario based teams)….Adam Folkard of Hill United Chief of Six Nations..and Sean Cleary of the Jarvis Travellers
Five selections for the first team infield All World team were from Ontario based teams..
Steve Mullaley and Blair Ezekiel both of Hill United
Brad Rona, Ian Fehrman and Brandon Horn – Jarvis Travellers in the outfield Hill United Brad Ezekiel and Freddie Terkelson of Jarvis made the 1st team
and the 1st team designated hitter…Donny Hale of Jarvis
2nd team awards
Pitcher Andrew Phibbs, of Niagara, and Paul Koert of Jarvis, again 2 of 3 awards for pitching.
John Kemp picked up the 2nd team catcher award as a member of the Toronto Gators and teammate Greg Garrity was selected to the Designated Hitter spot.
Mark Johnson and Jeff Ellesworth of Hill United and Tom Avery of the Harriston/Wellington Sox along with Niagara Snapper Darren Newsome made the outfield of the 2nd All World teams
Mike Bateman of the Niagara Snappers made the team in the infield..

OWEN SOUND JUNIORS – 2nd place in ISC U 21
The Argentina Juniors took a 3 – 0 record into the playoff round and added 4 more wins in the playoffs to capture the 2012 ISC U 21 championship..
Owen Sound Junior Selects were 2 and 1 in pool play and lost to the Argentina team 4 – 0 in the championship game..
Other playoff scores include
Stratford/NewDundee Cubs…8 – 6 over St Mary’s and 3 – 1 over Tavistock..then losing to Argentina 7 – 0.
Staffordville defeated Richville 11 – 0, and Walkerton Wild 3 – 2 before losing to Midland Explorers 4 – 2
Walkerton Wild…lost to Argentina 9 – 1, beat Richville 20 – 0, and Munger 12- 0…
Owen Sound defeated Fleetwood Marlins of BC in the playoffs and eliminated the host Explorer Jrs. to meet Argentina in the championship game..
COBOURG FORCE win LEGENDS Division of the ISC
Darren Zach was 3 and 1, Wayne Wells 2 and 0 and Don Stebbings was 1 and 0 as the Cobourg Force took the Legends (Over 50) ISC championship in Midland.
I noted in Sparky’s wrap up that Dana Seiling batted .500 tailing Bill Fairney at .666, and matching Steve Mitts
at .500..(I was scoring the game that Dana got his hit…and it was a solid double and an RBI)
OWEN SOUND U21 Canadian Championships.
A lot of fastpitch to report on…and sorry about the lack of detail out of Owen Sound…but i couldn’t find too much from the web site, I was there on Wednesday and Saturday, it was a great tournament…Newfounland Labrador won it…Owen Sound was second..I will dig a bit deeper and find more next time…
