CAN YOU GUYS PUT A LITTLE MORE INFO ON THE GAME , STATS KEY PLAYS,
fpw says
Sorry Victor, no official scorekeepers, so info was what we could gather.
Steve Parks says
Congrats to all, but I’d like to have an explanation as to how the tournament actually works. Usually teams are selected, times and brackets are set, and away we go. Except in this tournament. Apparently some punching bags were invited in last minute to fill some spots for teams, the punching bags punched back. 3-0 to be exact.
This is good stuff, was the tournament director involved in the BCS?
Dave Thompson says
Maybe if your team got pitching above C they wouldn’t be considered a punching bag to a tournament director. You beat Maccabi, a struggling Si Senor team and a reeling builders team. And then sunday did nothing. Calm down.
Paul Rubin says
Excellent stuff from Parksie, a great guy and player who was MIA and missed the scene…..Bizarre shit…and after all, it was a woman named Debbie Day who led the Pack to an undefeated record, a WOMAN!!!
Dave Thompson says
You beat no one and were no where to be found on Sunday. Relax.
Jeff S. says
Did you think one of the C teams there should have an easy path to the finals or what were you expecting? You beat 2 C teams on Saturday and a reeling builders team. I can’t understand if you are complaining about the format where you had to face a better team in the playoff round or you are bragging about your Saturday?
Steve P says
No complaints. Just was wondering if they had maybe done a Gold / Silver type bracket for the difference in levels.
And not sure where you guys are getting your info. Neither Maccabi nor the Wolfpack are “C” teams. Technically they are both A-Major rated but play in the SCIFL travel league which is an open league, and has several ISC pitchers throwing on any given day. Both teams have beaten ISC teams, and all those players can and have competed against the best, and beaten them. So to do what they do with the previously mentioned ” C” pitching makes it even more impressive. I just always thought the game was decided on the field.
Do your pitchers pay you back when they don’t win? lol..
Debby Day says
Ouch. Thanks guys….no need to put others down.
In any case, it was a fun tournament. Really enjoyed seeing so many quality teams. Thanks….
Dave Carlton says
Debby pitched excellently as she frequently does, was supported by outstanding defense and a group of talented hitters. The Wolfpack team I saw was very good all around and earned their wins. There was nothing “C” level about that squad.
I dont know the specifics but going from heresay I understood they earned a favorable spot in the bracket (following all posted rules) and were asked to play a different team for elimination than determined by the rules set forth when we started.
I believe they had every right to feel slighted on that. As a group we agreed on the seeding process so pretty much no matter how it works out (sometimes the Softball Gods favor us, sometimes they do not) we should stick to those rules. I apologize for the sermon but we have all sometimes had easier paths, gotten screwed by a time limit, or had to deal with a crappy situation. The Wolfpack earned a favorable position while following all rules. I say good work Wolfpack on a great event and congratulate Debbie Day on a fine pitching performance at a men’s major event.

Dave Carlton = Class , well written.
Its all good, there are valid points all around. At the end of the day it is still one common goal and that’s the promotion of fastpitch.
Jesse Mullen says
Dave Carlton, you are a class act, and I value your comments and thank you. I enjoyed playing against your team in masters and this weekend, and I have thought highly of you and your team in both instances.
I am the coach of the Wolfpack, and deserve all the attention or heat for what happened this weekend in Santee. Just for the record, we never expected an easy way to the finals as a “C” team, we only expected that given the way the tourney was set up, that we followed the rules of it. We never asked to play an “easy” team, and played every game as they were not easy. We were fine with playing Santa Cecilia as well, as those were the rules. We were told to play the 4th place team with us being the 3 seed. Our only issue was that, we should have played the 6th seed. We didn’t bitch, we didn’t complain, we simply wanted to follow the rules. I was embarrassed by Bob Mcormick when he said that we didn’t pay the fee to enter, we never asked not to, we were asked to help out because another team backed out. We are not a sponsored team, we had to pay our own way for rooms, for food, for gas, and for anything it took to get to the tourney. When I asked if I paid the $500 would I be allowed to play the 6th seed, I was told that “then I would have a horse in the race.” I felt that is was disrespectful, and did not want to be apart of something so tainted.
I respect the coach of the Portland Brewers and completely understood his position, and to his credit, he verbalized in front of everyone he agreed with mine. Nothing was done to disrespect him or the Brewers as they are a great team, and clearly led by a respectable man.
As for Dave Thompson, let me know when you have some time to talk, we are not angry and not upset with anything that happened to us, it was misfortunate. We took this whole tourney as fun, and a great learning experience for a very young team and are very lucky to have been invited. When you start talking bad about my pitchers, I take offense to that and get very angry. I would love to offer you the chance to pick up a bat, and face my “C” pitcher Debby Day, and maybe then you might truly get a chance to make a judgment on her level of pitching. I am sure there are a lot of readers of this website who have faced her, and would also like to see this happen as well. She has been facing batters of all levels, and has held her own. If you want to attack someone, attack me, as she is way out of your league!
Bob Otto says
I’ve had the pleasure of covering the Wolfpack at the 2013 NAFA World Series, where they won the A Division championship with Debby Day earning Co-MP Pitcher accolades. The team is a class act all the way. And Debby Day- outside of the determined, focused look in the circle – is one of the friendliest and most outgoing ball players I’ve ever met. Win or lose, when I needed a quote from her, she was easily accessible.
And like Jesse said, she can more than hold her own against the men, which she has proven time and again.
