After a one-year hiatus, the Midland Explorers Men’s Major fastpitch softball team returns to the diamond this weekend at the Lefty Bartos/Lee Isenhart Memorial tournament at Emerson Park.
Concerns with sponsorship and the aging core of the team prompted what longtime Explorers’ player Kyle Beane called a “hiatus” last season.
With those issues addressed, Beane said the team is back and ready to go with a younger roster with a very local flavor.
“It was a big change (not playing),” he said. “I think it was time to shift the focus and have a changeover in the roster. The young guys needed a chance to decide how committed they are, and I hope these tournaments this summer get them ready for more.”
The team’s roster has a lot of new players that are also familiar local names, including Trevor Hoon, T.J. Radosa, Drew Thurston, Dustin Collamer, Thomas Smith, Reid Huntoon, Jake Enszer, and Lars Cronkright from Midland.
Returning Explorers’ players include Beane, Aaron Kraft and Zack Lach of Frankenmuth, Justin Davis from Midland, and Chris Randall from Bay City.
