A a single by Kevin Castillo in the seventh inning cost Godoy his no-hit bid.

Editor’s note: Though Godoy dominated the A’s for the first six innings, the A’s did not go quietly in the 7th, forcing Godoy to get relief help from lefty Andrew Kirkpatrick. Kevin Castillo led off the 7th with a single to right field. Greg Garrity, who hit a walk off homer in the 14th inning of the A’s last game launched a blast high and deep to left center. Initially, it looked like a home run, but Gremlin left fielder Mathieu Roy played it perfectly, going to the fence, and leaping up to make the catch, going over the fence. Castillo tagged and went to second, prompting a pitching change. Enter Kirkpatrick in relief to face lefty Chase Turner, who was hit by a pitch, bringing the tying run to the plate, and another lefty, Pat Sagdal. Sagdal hit a liner to left, but right at Mathieu Roy. Kirkpatrick closed out the inning/game with a strikeout for the save. The Gremlins outhit the A’s 9 to 1.
The Gremlins will advance to play the winner of tonight’s 8pm CDT game between the Gators and J&B Painting. The A’s will drop down to the loser’s bracket and will play Thursday morning against the winners of Kegel/NB Petro and Waterdown/Peligro.
The A’s Kevin Castillo is developing a reputation for being a no-no spoiler. Last summer, in Saskatoon, he broke up an Adam Folkard no hitter at the WBSC World Championship with two outs in the 7th.
