Hill United (2-0)
The Hill United Chiefs have won the last three ISC World Tournament, seeking to become only the second team ever to win four consecutive World Tournaments. The legendary Long Beach Nitehawks accomplished the feat in 1957 through 1960. The Jarvis Travelers won three in a row, 2010-2012.
Hill United (2-0) reached the Winner’s Bracket Quarterfinal with wins over Todd’s Mudjacking, 23-0, and the Kegel Black Knights, in a much closer game, 3-0.
The first game lasted a merciful 5 innings, with the Chiefs pounding out 18 hits. Mark Johnson had 3 hits and 7 RBI, Steve Mullaley a perfect 4 for 4 scoring 5 runs. Leading 9-0 after 4, the Chiefs scored 14 runs in the 5th, in a game sure to skew the tournament’s statistical categories. Ace Adam Folkard struck out all 9 batters he faced in three short innings.
In their second game of the tournament against the Kegel Black Knights, the Chiefs scored two runs in the first and one more in the third, relying on the pitching of ace Adam Folkard, who tossed a 1 hitter, striking out 15. Mark Johnson and Nick Shailes had two hits each for Hill, with Shailes scoring two of the three runs.
Circle Tap (2-0)
The Circle Tap Dukes of Denmark Wisconsin are no strangers to top level play at the ISC World Tournament, having been around for more than a decade. The Dukes notched an easy win in their opener Sunday night, an 8-1 win over the Pueblo Bandits. Argentine pitcherr Sebastian Gervasutti did most of the work, surrendering but 1 hit in his 5 plus innings of work, striking out 12. Jovaan Hanley struck the big blow for the Tap, a three run homer in the 4th to overcome the Bandit’s early 1-0 lead.
Circle Tap won their second game in dramatic fashion, 3-2 over the NY Peligro Gremlins, on a walk-off home run by Manuel Godoy in the bottom of the 9th. Circle Tap was out hit by Peligro in the game, 8-4, against Peligro’s Jeremy Manley who struck out 8, but capitalized on mistakes by Peligro to tie the game in the 4th, and then get the big hit when it counted.
