From the Woodstock Sentinel:
Innerkip will host a pair of intra-squad games for the top male fastball players in Canada this weekend.
Softball Canada will hold the Canadian men’s national team selection camp Thursday to Sunday between Kitchener and Innerkip.
The main selection camp will take place in Kitchener at Conestoga College to go through the physical and positional testing, while Innerkip will host exhibition games tonight at 6:30 and Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. free of charge.
“It doesn’t get any better than what you’re going to see in Canada. These are the best 22 players coming to camp,” Kyle Smith, the local organizer, said. “It’ll be a high level of fastball with high execution. Guys are competing for roster spots… You’ll see some pretty intense ballgames this weekend.”
Smith has developed a working relationship with Innerkip Park and Softball Canada and expressed interest in hosting the games in Innerkip. When dates are posted on Softball Canada’s website, he said he’ll reach out to the national program and see if there’s a way Innerkip can help.
Two years ago they held their first national camp and have become a place to come for the national program.
The team has already selected 12 players of the 22 participating from British Columbia, Ontario, Newfoundland, Saskatchewan and Quebec with five spots to be decided before the end of the weekend.
