Hayley Davis (daughter of New Zealand’s Glenn “The Rocket” Davis and UCLA All American Tracy Compton-Davis) Signs Letter of Intent to Ole Miss
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss head coach Missy Dickerson announced the signing of five players to national letters of intent on Thursday. Allison Brown, Sarah Craig, Hayley Davis, Dallas Hardin and Lauren Lindsey will all join the program beginning in the 2011-12 academic year.
“We are very excited about the future of Ole Miss Softball and our 2011 recruiting class,” Dickerson said. “We have signed several talented athletes that will continue to add to the upward direction of our program. Three of the five come in with championship experience. Dallas Hardin’s team won 18 & Under ASA Gold Nationals, while Sarah Craig and Allison Brown’s team won 18 & Under Premier Nationals. We believe all the signees have a bright future at Ole Miss.” …
A Santa Monica, Ca. native, Davis is a star pitcher at Righetti High School where her she led her team to an undefeated record and the league championship 2009. Davis earned first team All-CIF honors and was named the MVP of the PAC 7 in 2009 and picked up second team All-CIF honors last season. Davis’ mother, Tracy Compton-Davis, was an All-American pitcher at UCLA and her father, Glen Davis, was an all-world pitcher for New Zealand and won several national championships for his home country. In addition to softball, Davis has also won four league championships as a member of the golf team.
Editor’s note: Bob Otto’s feature story about Glenn “The Rocket” Davis appeared on the pages of Fastpitchwest back in 2002, when Hayley was just 8. Glenn had just about retired from world caliber play by 2002, and talked of watching his daughter (then 8 years old) pitch, saying then:
“… I enjoy watching my daughter Hayley pitch. She pitched for the first time this year, and I was more nervous watching her than pitching myself.”
p.s. to Glenn…get ready to be nervous for the next four years!
One of Hayley’s teammates next year will be 2011 signee, Allison Brown, a talented player from Los Alamitos, CA:
A native of Los Alamitos, Cal., Brown played softball at Los Alamitos High School where she was named the 2009-10 Scholar Athlete and earned team MVP for 2010. Brown was also named to the first team All-Sunset League and the Long Beach Press-Telegram 2010 Dream Team. The daughter of Stan and Vicky Brown, Allison won the ESPN Rise National Championship as a member of the So Cal Athletics and boasts a batting average of .420 and a field percentage of .975
