USA Men’s National Fast Pitch Team bounces back with ISF Worlds win

SASKATOON, Saskatchewan, Canada — The USA Softball Men’s Fast Pitch National Team bounced back from a humbling loss against New Zealand Friday with a convincing 7-0 victory over Denmark (1-1) Saturday at the International Softball Federation World Men’s Softball Championship in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Team USA (1-1) erupted for five runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by Matt Palazzo’s (Des Moines, Iowa) two-run homer. Frank DeGroat (Ringwood, N.J.) added a two-run homer in the top of the sixth inning to give the USA the seven run mercy-rule margin. Chase Turner (Stockton, Calif.) had three of the team’s 11 hits, while Palazzo and DeGroat added two each.

Travis Price (Corona, Calif.) picked up the win, allowing four hits while striking out six and walking one in five innings. Paul Koert pitched the sixth, striking out two. Jesper Panduro took the loss, yielding three runs on five hits, walking four and striking out four in 3 2/3 innings.

“After a tough loss last night, it was paramount that we bounced back in good fashion today,” said Team USA Head Coach Peter Turner (Stockton, Calif.). “We’re back on track and look forward to the challenges ahead.”

Next up for Team USA is a match with Japan (2-0) Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m. Saskatoon time.
