Kristin May Powers SDSU Softball Past Utah, 6-1

May goes 3-for-3 with a homer and four RBIs; Beasley becomes Aztec career strikeout leader

SAN DIEGO – Freshman Kristin May (Corona, Calif.) went 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs and junior Samantha Beasley (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) became the school’s all-time strikeout leader in the San Diego State softball team’s 6-1 victory over Utah Friday night at SDSU Softball Stadium. The Aztecs improved to 30-13 and 8-3 in the Mountain West Conference with the win, while the Utes dropped to 24-27 and 4-9.

May had a two-run single in the bottom of the first inning, a single in the fourth and then capped a four-run SDSU sixth inning with a two-run homer over the left field fence. It was her fourth home run of the season, tying her with sophomore Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS/Cal State Bakersfield) and junior Jen Wisneski (Riverside, Calif.) for the most on the team.

May had three of San Diego State’s 10 hits on the night. Junior Jessica Camello (Temecula, Calif.) had two hits, including a double, and scored twice, while Maeva singled twice and drove in a run.

Senior Brittany Knudsen (San Diego/Escondido HS) singled, stole a base and scored a run, while junior Traci Wolf (Lancaster, Calif.) and freshman Felicia Reifschneider (San Diego/Morse HS) each scored for the Aztecs. Redshirt senior Monica Alnes (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) and sophomore Ashley Rose (Antioch, Calif.) each added solo singles.

Beasley (25-8) allowed one run on three hits and a walk over six innings. She struck out nine batters and now has 619 over her career, seven more than Christina Ross’ 612 set from 2006-08. Beasley is 20-3 with a 0.80 ERA since Feb. 27 (148 1/3 innings).

Sophomore Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) struck out one and gave up one hit in one inning of relief.

Utah got its run when Joni Cook and Whitney Holm had back-to-back doubles to lead off the second frame.

The same two teams meet tomorrow (Saturday) at 1 p.m. PT in the final regular season home game for SDSU seniors Alnes, Sydney Fleming (Oakland, Calif.), Knudsen and Stefanie Quichocho-Rosario (San Diego/Morse HS).
