California A’s squeak one out at 2010 ISC WT

The California A’s only mustered two hits, but in the end, with Sean Whitten’s 14 strikeout shutout, only needed one to win their first game of the 2010 ISC World Tournament. The hit was a triple by Marcus Tan, who came home to score the game’s only run, on a wild pitch.

The # 5 California A’s squad shook off rust from late season inactivity to notch a win in their first game of the 2010 ISC World Tournament, 1-0 over an unheralded – but very tough #33 Staten Island, NY Adco Electric team that played in the ISC II division last year. Pitcher Greg Garrity kept the usually strong A’s offense in check most of the night.

The A’s will play again Tuesday night, at 9pm EDT against western region rival, the Pueblo Bandits, who came into the World Tournament ranked # 21. Pueblo has qualified for the World Tournament in 15 of the past 16 years, and has plenty of veteran experience.
