So Cal Bombers Win Mexicali Tournament

The So Cal Bombers won the Mexicali tournament this past weekend, with a perfect 5-0 record, including a 5-0 shutout win over former Bomber Panfilo Valdez’s team in the Championship game. Jason Porto hit a 2-run homer in the first inning of the title game, and Arturo Solano socked a 2-run homer in the 6th to put the game away.

Bomber’s pitcher Sean Whitten had 17 K’s in the championship and was Most Valuable Pitcher for the tourney. Whitten had two of the Bombers wins, giving up 0 runs and striking out 34 in his two starts.

Raymundo Parra was selected the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, hitting 3 homeruns on the weekend.

Bomber pitcher Travis Price was 2-0, only allowing 2 earned runs in 13 innings of work.

Another local So Cal team also competed in the tournament, Raymar, of Santa Ana, California. Raymar finished 1-2, dropping games to Panfilo Valdez’s team, and a team with a pitcher on Mexico’s National team. Raymar defeated Los Grillos (“The Crickets”, en Ingles). Gerald Pyle, Andy Martinez, and Angel “Yogi” Saucedo were among the players on the Raymar squad.
