Black Sox Win at Lancaster (SoCal ASA)

From the Black Sox website: Long Beach Black Sox Win at Lancaster

The Long Beach Black Sox playing without 6 players pulled together and won their 4th ASA Alliance tournament and 8th overall tournament. This would be the Sox 1st ever win at the A/B level. Todd Budke in relief of Chuck Vranich got the win with 5 innings of solid pitching scattering 6 hits with only 1 walk.

Budke came in the 3rd inning in relief of Chuck Vranich and went the rest of the way allowing only 1 run in securing the victory for The Sox. The Sox jumped on Panteras starter Bobby Lara for 5 runs in the 1st inning knocking him out in favor of Ron Rupp. The 1st inning rally started with the 1st 2 hitters making out. Todd Budke walked. Fred Hanker than hit a long triple to left center scoring Budke. Hanker scored on a wild throw. Chris Minogue singled and scored on a Brett Semans single. Chris Martinez and Dave Hanker followed with RBI singles to cap off the 5 run 1st. In the 2nd the Sox scored another run on a Andy Martinez double and a RBI single by Fred Hanker and that was the extent of the scoring until the 6th. The brillant pitching of Ron Rupp and Todd Budke took over the game the next few innings. After 5 innings the score was Long Beach 6 and The Panteras 4. In the 6th Andy Martinez singled and Fred Hanker and Chris Minogue walked. Brett Semans than stepped up and delivered a clutch 2 run RBI single giving the Sox a 8-4 lead and the victory. Todd Budke survived a scary 7th but held off the Panteras rally and the final was 8-5 Long Beach. Check back tomorrow for more on the Sox 5-0 weekend.
