Both Canada Team Victorious at Canada Cup

(Surrey, BC) Team Canada

Team Canada improved their record to 3-2 at the 11th Annual Canada Cup
International Softball tournament with a 7-1 win over the Bloomington Lady
Hearts.

Canada got on the board in the first when Kristy Odamura scored on an
Alison Bradley RBI single. They added to their lead in the 2nd when
Rachell Schill drove in Cindy Eadie with an infield single. In the 3rd
Bradley reached base on a single and was followed up with a Kim Sarrazin
walk. The runners advanced on a fielder’s choice. Noemie Marin drove in
Schill and Sarrazin stole home to put the Canadian’s up 4-0. The Canadians
added one run in the 5th and two in the 6th to seal the victory.

Auburn Sigurdson pitched 6 innings for the victory. Sigurdson allowed 1
run on 4 hits and struck out 9 Lady Heart batters. Kaila Hotlz pitched the
7th giving up one hit and striking out two.

Offensively Canada was lead by Odamura, Bradley and Marin who all went 3
for 4. Marin and Bradley each had 2 RBIs. Bradley upped her tournament
batting average to .563. When asked about her success, Bradley stated, “I
love playing at the Canada Cup. It’s such a great environment for me and
I’m seeing the ball really well right now.”

Noemin Marin got her first start with the Senior team at this event and
made the most of her opportunity. Normally a hockey player at the
University of Duluth, Marin has juggled two sports for the past year. A
star with Canada’s junior team in 2003, Marin has stepped up her game and
was named an alternate to the Olympic squad. “I was a nervous tonight,”
stated Marin. “I was very excited for the chance to play and feel
fortunate to have contributed to the win.”
