Avery, Kinch power Athletics sweep of Midgets

ALBERTON - Chris Avery and Erroll Kinch provided the big bats at the plate 
as the Alberton Arms Pub Athletics swept a double header over the Moase 
Plumbing and Heating Midgets Sunday afternoon.

Alberton won 8-6 and 8-0 in the Source for Sports Men's Intermediate Fast 
Pitch league games were played before about 75 fans at Memorial Park in 
Alberton.

Avery (3-4 with a run scored, triple, double and RBI), Kinch (3-4 with an 
RBI and run scored), Jason Milligan (1-3 with a walk, run scored and two 
RBI) and Mitch Hardy (2-3 with two run scored, a home run and RBI) powered 
the A's offense.

For the Midgets, who were hitless until Barry MacNeil (2-2 with two 
triples, a run scored and RBI) broke Mitch Hardy's no-hit bid. Ryan Gallant 
(2-4 with a three run blast and two runs scored), Pierre Richard (0-3 with 
two runs scored) and Collin Dillon (1-4) led the Midgets offensively who 
rallied from a 7-0 deficit to make a game of it.

Winning pitcher Mitch Hardy went the distance allowing six runs on five 
hits, walking four, and striking out 14. Losing pitcher Shawn Bernard went 
three innings allowing six runs on five hits, walking two and striking out 
three. Jeremy Gallant pitched three innings in relief.

In game two, Avery (3-3 with a run scored and three RBI), Kinch (1-2 with a 
run scored), Troy Ellsworth (0-2 with a walk, run scored and RBI) and Kirby 
Hutt (0-0 with two walks, RBI and run scored) powered the win. Jeff 
Ellsworth hit a solo home run.

For the Midgets, Ryan Gallant (1-2) and Jeremy Reeves (1-1) were the only 
hitters to get a hit off winning pitcher Troy Ellsworth.

Ellsworth went five innings, allowing two hits and striking out five 
batters. Losing pitcher Pierre Richard gave up five runs on four hits, 
walked three and struck out two in three innings work. Jeremy Gallant 
pitched one inning in relief allowing three runs on two hits, walked two 
and struck out one.

Alberton's next in action when they host a exhibition game Tuesday against 
the Summerside Greco/Source for Sports Midget Twins at Memorial Park. Game 
time is 6:30 p.m. It will be the Twins' last tuneup before play at the 2004 
Consolidated Credit Union Canadian Midget Boys Fast Pitch Championships Aug 
1-8 in Summerside and Alberton.

The Moase Midgets next play Wednesday night in their final league play 
before the National tournament when they play league-leading Kinkora 
O'Sheas Pub and Eatery Hitmen at Queen Elizabeth Park Very Important 
Volunteer Field. Game times are 7 and 9 p.m.

Alberton travels to the diamond in St. Louis that same night for a tilt 
with rival St. Louis Storm. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
