West St. Paul, MN

The IS Knights (Fargo, ND) claimed the title of the 34th Annual West St.
Paul Tournament Sunday evening with a 5-3 victory over RWP, Inc.
(Geneva). IS posted a perfect 6-0 record on the weekend.

With the game tied at zero entering the fourth inning, IS mounted a two-out
rally over Geneva's Rick Lang. Jason Wandler and Dan Brekke singled
back-to-back. Lamar Noriega's singled to score Wandler. Brekke then
scored from second on Mike Armitage's single.

In the bottom half of the fourth, BJ Boom singled off starter Greg Bouchard
with one out and then scored on Brad Shepherd's triple. Geneva appeared to
have tied the score on Jim Harms' Sac fly to left field the next batter,
but Shepherd was called out for leaving early on a blatantly miscalled
decision.

Geneva then tied the score in the bottom of the fifth inning when Tomm
Richards doubled off Michael White, who replaced Bouchard to start the
inning. Dan Harms entered to pinch run for Richards. Dan Harms then
scored on Shawn Hearn's Sac fly to deep center field (380 feet).

The Knights took the lead for good in their half of the sixth. Scott
Deutsch hit into a fielders choice for the first out of the frame and then
scores on Wandler's Inside-The-Park homer.

Scott McLeod led off the bottom half of that inning with a double and then
scored when Kyle Magnussen hit a double of his own. Boom grounded out to
second to move Magnussen to third, but white retired the next two batters
to end any potential rally.

An insurance run was added in the seventh when Gregg Cascaess led off the
inning with a single, advanced to second on Bob Fleming's double, then with
two outs, scores on Steve Baumgartner's single.

The 18-team event was played under nearly ideal conditions all
weekend. Rain was no where in sight and the heat was kept to a minimum on
the whole.

Line Score for the Championship is as follows.
IS 000 202 1-5 10 1
RWP 000 111 0-3 5 2
Bouchard, White (5) and Noriega, Delorit (6)
Lang and Shepherd
WP-Bouchard (2-0)
LP-Lang (3-2)
HR-Knights: Wandler (IP) (1)
