Subject: Quaker Riversharks at the Casino Rama World Series

Lebanon, PA

On Friday July 16, the Quaker Riversharks ventured north to participate
in the Casino Rama World Series of Fastball tournament in Orillia
Canada. We played three games in bracket play, losing to Halifax 5-0
(LP, J. Smith), Broken Bow 6-1 (LP, A. Jackson), and The Farm 7-2 (LP,
J. Smith). Having finished in fourth place in our bracket, we drew
Heflin Construction in the playoff round. The Riversharks finally played
to their potential against a top team and beat Heflin 10-4 (WP, A.
Jackson). The offense, defense, and pitching all clicked in this game.
Next up was the Farm again, as the Riversharks lost 8-0 (LP, J. Smith).
Even though we were only 1-4 on the weekend, beating Heflin gave the
young squad some much needed confidence.

Andy Jackson threw extremely well in picking up the lone win for the
Riversharks. Bobby Wengert led the hitting attack going 5-10 with 4
RBIs. Dan Loney, on loan from Keating, also chipped in with a 4-13
showing, hitting 3 triples. Matt Daley was awarded the MVP of the Heflin
game going 3-3.

I was particularly impressed with the quality of this tournament - not
only with the quality of teams but also with how the tournament was run.
Everything, from the hotels, food, and fields were top notch. My hats
off to the people who put so much time into making this a premier
fastball event.

During this past winter, the Riversharks decided that they needed to
upgrade their schedule. I am not sure if we ever envisioned playing so
many top teams. Of the 13 games that Quaker has played outside of
Pennsylvania, 12 were against teams ranked in the top 11 in the ISC
final rankings. This level of competition should be helpful when we
travel to Fargo in August.

Next up for the Riversharks is a trip to Lyons PA, to play in the
Keating's Invitational Tournament.
