The Aurora fastpitch Softball Association is sponsoring the 2004 AFSA
Classic to be held at Stewart Park on Jericho road this weekend.  Some of
the top ranked mens fastpitch teams in the world will be attending this
event.  Nine teams from across the midwest including Michigan, Iowa and
Indiana will compete for the 2004 crown.  The 2003 AFSA Classic Champions
were Aurora Dolan and Murphy Shamrocks who defeated the Bloomington Stix
3-2 in nine innings for last year's crown.
This years field is highlited by the Midland Explorers who are currently
ranked #11 in the world and have Team USA pitcher Doug Gillis on the
mound.  The Quad City Sox #13 boast Canadian pitcher Quinton Matzner and
have 2 time All World player Bill Kranz in centerfield.  The Dolan and
Murphy team is ranked #21 in the world.  The Shamrocks are in a
rebuilding season and have been competitive and hope to turn it up a
notch for the final three weeks of the season.  The Bloomington Stix are
ranked #22.  The Stix have 17 year old phenom Adam Falkard who is
arguably the best 17 year old pitcher in the world.  Other ranked teams
competing in this year's event are Benton Harbor #35 and the Rockford
BHAC Pride who are #37 and have one of the top pitchers in Illinois, Ray
Reynolds pitching for them.  The local 23-under ATMI Precast will also be
playing in the tournament.
The tournament starts at PM on Friday night when Dolan and Murphy battles
ATMI followed by Rockford vs Richwrap of Elburn.  Saturday, the games
start at 10am with the final game of the night at 730.  On Sunday the
games again start at 10am with the championship slated for 130pm.
Admission is free and there will be plenty of food at the concession
stand.
