Midland, MI

The inaugural All-Star Game between the Midland and Thumb Fastpitch Leagues 
was held last night at Currie Stadium.  Despite rough weather throughout 
the day, the rain held off and an excellent crowd of fans got to see 
mid-Michigan's best players compete against each other in a 9-inning 
exhibition.

After a five-run offensive outburst in the 1st inning, the Thumb league 
held onto the lead for a 7-2 victory.  Six singles off Midland starter Greg 
Wright (Coppens Brigade) produced 5 runs, highlighted by a 2-out 2-RBI 
single by Gene McKinstry (Vassar Bar/TK Interiors).  Starting pitcher Pete 
Loachridge (Tiffanys) pitched 3 scoreless innings and was credited with the 
victory.

Solo homeruns by Steve Roberts (Munger Firemen) in the 3rd, and Kyle Beane 
(Munger Firemen) in the 6th finished the scoring for the Thumb 
All-Stars.  Doug Gillis (Munger Firemen) threw 2 scoreless innings, and 
Brian Keidel (Auburn Buzz) and Jeff Hoover (Vassar Bar/TK Interiors) each 
allowed one run in their time on the mound.

Midland scored their first run in the 7th inning on an RBI single by Guy 
Thurston (Roof of the North).  In the bottom of the 9th, Midland loaded the 
bases and Gregg Sauve (Communiquest) singled in one run, but left fielder 
Dave Mammel (Auburn Buzz) threw out the runner trying to score from second 
to end the game.

MVP for the Thumb League was McKinstry, who was on base 4 times (3 singles 
and a walk).  Pitcher Shane Wilson (Communiquest) was named MVP for the 
Midland side as he allowed only a single run in four innings of 
work.  Pitcher Randy Wade (Mayan Agency) of Midland threw two scoreless 
innings in his appearance.

(St. Louis), M-46rs (Merril), Mayan Agency (Merril), WCF (Midland), Roof of 
the North (Roscommon), and Strata Homes (Bay City).

Thumb League:  Munger Firemen (Munger), UpToDate Painting (Millington), 
Driving School (Frankenmuth), Tiffanys (Frankenmuth), Buzz (Auburn), and 
Vassar Bar/TK Interiors (Vassar).
