Day 7 (Sunday, Aug. 8)

WINNIPEG, Manitoba - It was a sad night for the prairies yesterday as
both remaining teams from the prairie provinces, the Winnipeg
Lightning and the Saskatoon Phantoms, were eliminated in their late
night games.

Winnipeg lost a 3-0 match to the Chinguacousy Cougars, who scored
their runs in the fifth and sixth innings to end the host team's run.
Winnipeg's cold bats came back to freeze their chances, a problem that
had plagued them most of the day.

The Brampton Blazers opened up with a run in the first, and adding
four in the third and one more in the fifth to put down the the
Saskatoon Phantoms 6-2.  The Phantoms responded with a late rally,
scoring in the fifth and sixth innings, but came up short.

In today's action, the Markham Jaguars stuck to their winning streak
with a 2-1 win over the White Rock Renegades in a tough fought game.
Markham's Sonya Petrosoniak came in late and struck out the Renegade's
last batter with two runners on base threatening to blow Markham's
lead.

Markham now gets a bye to the championship game later thisevning,
while White Rock will have to take the long road, facing the winner of
the 1 PM game between the Chinguacousy Cougars and the Brampton
Blazers.

The championship game is scheduled for 5 PM, but with drizzle already
falling at the John Blumberg Softball Complex, schedules may be thrown
off.  Any changes will be released as soon as they are determined.
