SCHOTT, MUIZELAAR NAMED ALL-AMERICAN FOR ASA RUNNER-UP BROKEN BOW SPIRIT

SOUTH BEND, IN – The Broken Bow Spirit, which lost in the finals of the ASA 
Men’s Major Fast Pitch National Championship, became the first team from 
Nebraska to advance to the championship game. The Spirit had two players 
named first-team All-America, outfielder Steve Schott and pitcher Gerald 
Muizelaar.
The 39-year-old Schott, who has played on his share of outstanding teams in 
the past, carried the Spirit offense, hitting .500 with a tourney-high 12 
runs in 24 at-bats and  scoring seven runs, which also led the tourney.
Muizelaar  was outstanding in the circle, winning all four of his games and 
not allowing any earned runs in 26 innings. He struck out 49, allowed 15 
hits and allowed one run (unearned), walking four.
Dean Holoien, who hurled a no-hitter in the finals, also won four games and 
compiled an ERA of .0.52. Behind him were Robbie O’ Brien (2-1, 0.67 ERA), 
and Frank Cox of Broken Bow (2-1, 1.47 ERA), Jeremy Manley of Pueblo 
Bandits (2-2, 1.75), Sebastian Gervasutti of The Bull/Townline of DePere, 
WI (3-2, 2.17), and Doug Sleep of Heflin Builders (2-0, 2.33).
