Bluewater Fastball League

at Duncan McLellan Park, Owen Sound, ON

Scenic City Automotive Crunch 6 Chepstow Aces 4 in 8 innings

The Aces, who had played 6 times at the O.A.S.A. Intermediate " C " 
Championships in Wiarton on the weekend, came to Owen Sound with just 9 
players available for action.

Nevertheless, Chepstow got off to a very good start and threatened to score 
early.

Crunch Leftfielder Chris Bradley, whose sister Alison is a prominent member 
of the Canadian Women's Olympic Softball team, was able to nail Brent 
Reading at the plate with a strike to keep the game scoreless.

However, an error by the Crunch on the next batter allowed Chepstow to grab 
a 2-0 lead after half an inning of play.

Bradley singled in the bottom of the first, stole second & third and scored 
on an overthrow to get the Crunch on the board.

Crunch firstbaseman Garrett Baker would drill and r.b.i. single scoring 
Tony Lisk to tie the game at 2 after 1 inning.

In the bottom of the second, Scenic City Automotive took a 3-2 lead on a 
home run shot to left by third baseman Jason Redmond.

In the bottom of the 5th, Bradley singled again and came around to score to 
give the Crunch a 4-2 lead.

Chepstow would tie it in the top of the 7th, when third baseman Greg Grawl 
had a clutch 2 run double for the Aces.

Chepstow failed to score in the top of the 8th, leaving the door open for 
the Crunch in the bottom of the extra frame.

Catcher Tim Cox nailed a 2 run homer to right to give the Crunch a hard 
fought 6-4 win.

Trevor Wardell went all the way for the win. The Crunch rightie gave up 4 
hits on the night.

Taking the loss was jeremy Grawl who was touched for 8 hits in 8 innings.

Tonight, the Scenic City Automotive Crunch are at Port Elgin to meet the 
Blue Devils.

The league championship playoff tournament is set for September 11th and 
will be hosted by the Chepstow club.
