Minesing Stakes 2-1 Series Lead

In Simcoe Rural Fastball League semi-final action the veteran Minesing has
taken 2 out of the first 3 games against the Wyevale Tribe, and is but 1
victory away from the finals, where last year they defeated Vasey in a 7
game thriller.

Game 1

Minesing 3 – Wyevale 2

Minesing started out well in this one. With one out in the bottom of the
first inning Tribe pitcher Jason Giffen issued a walk, which was followed
swiftly by back to back home runs by Paul Priest and Rob McLean. That
accounted for all of Minesing’s offence as Giffen shut the door the rest of
the way. Priest got the start for Minesing and silenced the Tribe bats
until the top of the seventh when Dave Drinkill hit a two run shot with no
one out. Kurt Glover then came in and retired the next 3 batters to seal
the victory for Minesing.

Game 2

Minesing 2 – Wyevale 1

Giffen had no first inning jitters in this one as he started the game with
8 consecutive strikeouts, and was mowing down the Minesing lineup. The
Tribe then opened the scoring with Trace Leonard plating a run with a
triple into the gap in right-centre. The cagey Minesing squad answered
quickly in their next at bat plating the tying run. Then in the top of the
sixth inning they added what would be the winning run. Again Priest
started the game for Minesing and kept the Tribe at bay, until he was
relieved by Glover in the sixth who closed the door again.

Game 3

Wyevale 4 – Minesing 2

Minesing sent ace Kurt Glover to the mound to try to close out the
series. The Tribe stranded 6 runners in the first 3 innings as Glover was
able to pitch his way out of trouble each and every time. With no score
(and two out) in the bottom of the third inning Minesing opened the scoring
on a single by John Adams, which was followed by a double by Keith
Rankin. Ranking then scored on a wild pitch, after advancing to third on
the throw home, to make it 2-0 for the home team. Wyevale answered right
back in the top of the fourth when Mark Lambie hit a clutch 2 out 2 run
double to tie the score. The score remained tied until the top of the 6th
inning when Cory Kell y hit a solo home run off of Glover to make the score
3-2. Kevin Peterson followed that up with a single that chased Glover from
the game in favour of Priest. Peterson scored the final run on a wild
pitch. Jason Giffen again gave the Tribe excellent pitching as he (and the
Tribe) earned their first victory in the series.
