Hitmen improve to 20-0
The Kinkora O'Shea's Pub and Eatery Hitmen look to have their competition
at their feet after they pushed their record to an improbable 20-0 with
wins Wednesday night over the Summerside Moosehead Twins.
The Source for Sports Men's Fast Pitch League games were played at Queen
Elizabeth Park's Very Important Volunteer Field in Summerside. Kinkora won
9-0 and 9-4.
Kinkora went into the game 16-0 and came out with four wins from the two
games, as both teams agreed to make the games four point games - pending
league approval - to include an earlier double header between the two that
had been postponed.
In game one, Kinkora was led at the plate by Hugh John McIver (2-2, two
RBI, two runs scored, stolen base), Brian Duffy (2-3, double, run scored),
Kevin Warren (1-3, double, RBI) and Wade Waddell (2-2, run scored).
For Summerside, Darryl Yeo (1-3) was the lone Twin to get a hit of winning
pitcher Frank MacAree who went five innings, allowing four walks and
fanning six.
Losing pitcher Scott Bridges went five innings allowing nine runs (seven
earned) on seven hits and striking out two.
In Game two, Wade Waddell powered the offense with a three-run home run
while Pete McCardle chipped in with a home run, two runs scored and three
RBI to pad his league totals.
Also leading the Hitmen were Wayne Stewart (1-2, two walks, two runs
scored), Craig Manuel (1-3, home run, RBI, walk) and Kevin Warren (1-3,
home run, RBI, walk.).
For the Twins, who slip to 6-12 with the losses, Darryl Yeo (2-3, RBI),
Wayne Dawson (1-3, run scored, RBI), Ian Power (1-4, run scored), C.J.
Gallant (1-2) and Todd Richard (0-1, three walks,run scored) led them at
the dish.
Winning pitcher Kevin Warren went three innings allowing three runs (two
earned) on three hits, walking three and striking out two. Craig Manuel
went four innings in relief giving up one run on two hits, walking two and
sitting down eight.
Losing pitcher Joe MacDougall went two and two-thirds innings, allowing
nine runs on four hits, walking five and striking out one. Neil Arnold
pitched three and one-third innings striking out three and walking three.
SUNDAY ACTION
Action on Sunday sees the Wellington Jacks travel to the Kensington Lions
Club Field (behind Community Gardens) for a 1:30 p.m. game with the Moase
Plumbing and Heating Midgets as a side show to the Kensington Harvest Festival.
