Subject: ASA Men's A Nationals - Lancaster
The first day of the ASA A Nationals in Lancaster, California are complete
with McKie Sports (Oswego, New York) taking the top seed in the double
elimination bracket. McKie Sports went 2 - 0 in the round robin with a 2 -
0 win over the Savala Painters (Stockton, CA) and a 8 - 1 victory over the
Santa Barbara Bucks (California). Shawn Sampson recorded the victory in
the first game and Rod Bunge started the second game and earned the win
with Scott Durral coming for relief. Derek Stevens homered for McKie.
Six teams finished at 1 - 1 with the Savala Painters placing second using
the time breaker. The Painters defeated Duncan Bullets (Elkhart, Indiana)
in their afternoon game 8 - 0 with Cary Weilier getting the win and Keith
Fry coming in the assist. Russ Snow took the lost in the first game.
CR/Adidas (Portland, Oregon) placed third with a win over Duncan
Bullets. Steve Thompson had the win for Adidas. In the second game CR
lost to Team Rainey , (Whittier, California) with Dan Kolda taking the
lost. Louie Nasuta homered for CR.
The Bucks finished as the fourth seed with their win coming against
Keatings Fitness Center (Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania) 6 - 1. Mark Bennett
earned the win. Hank Schied took the lost against McKie.
Team Rainey and Keatings Fitness Center had the wildest game of the day
with Keating coming on top 9 - 8. After two innings Rainey was leading 7 -
1 but Keating fought back with four in the fourth and one on the sixth to
cut the lead to one. Rainey got an insurance run in the top of the seventh
but Keating kept fighting and scored three in the bottom of the inning for
the win. Art Devoe earned the win for Keating with Tony Peeples taking the
lost for Team Rainey.
Double elimination starts Saturday morning with Keating Fitness Center
facing Team Rainey facing Keating and CR/Adidas will face the Bucks in the
first two games of the day. Duncan Bullets will play Savala
Painters and McKie Sports will face the winner of the Keating/Rainey game.
