A clutch, two-out single by Mike Oliver led the Mississauga Mudcats to a 
2-0 win over Mississauga Chiefs in the first game of their Mississauga 
Fastball League final Wednesday night.
Oliver drove in Mike Welton with the game-winning run in the fifth inning 
after the Chiefs elected to intentionally walk Ron Rosengren with two out 
and a base open. The Chiefs employed a similar strategy in the third inning 
and it paid off as Oliver struck out. However, in the fifth, Oliver drove 
the first pitch he saw through the right side of the infield to break a 
scoreless tie.
Ty Trainor singled in Scott Patterson with an insurance run in the sixth 
inning.
Starting pitcher Patterson scattered five hits over 4 1/3 innings, leaving 
with two runners on base. Despite loading the bases on a walk to Andrew 
Hill, reliever and eventual winning pitcher Chad Reed was able to work out 
of the jam with two big strikeouts. Mudcats' pitchers fanned 12 on the night.
Chiefs' pitcher Drew Hathway gave up only five hits, walking three and 
striking out four. Dwayne Schrader had two hits and a stolen base for the 
Chiefs.
The next game in the best-of-five final is Wednesday September 8 at 8:45 at 
Meadowvale Sports Park.
