Bradford ON
Will McElroy and a few mental errors was all it took for the Bradford Sox
to eliminate the Lake Simcoe Lightning from contention in OCDSA playoff
action. The Lake Simcoe Lightning started off on the right note with a lead
off homerun by first basemen John Zeiger, taking Bradford pitcher Brad
Bricknell deep in the top of the first. Bradford came back in their half of
the first tying the game at 1 until the Lightning came up in the top of the
third when John Zeiger, again leading off took a Bricknell offering over
the fence in left for another lead off homerun. Later that same inning
Shortstop Todd Hamblin sent a double to center and was scored when Jeff
Hanson sent a ball to left field, making the score 3-1 Lightning. The next
inning the Lightning made what they thought was a proper change only to be
told that the batter they sent to the plate Brad Copping was deemed
ineligible. Center fielder Al Cox who Copping was supposed to replace and
had changed his footwear and had left the game was sent back into the game
following the umpires ruling only to be the recipient of a fly ball which
he made an error on sending the leadoff batter to third. The runner later
scored on a John Kemp double. After striking out the next batter, Lighting
Pitcher Ricky May gave up a two run home run to Will McElroy to make the
score 4-3. This obviously left the Lake Simcoe team shaken and they were
unable to come back, The Sox added an insurance run when John Kemp was
cashed in from third on a McElroy sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth.
Bradford's Brad Bricknell went the distance for the win, while Ricky May
also pitched a complete game only to be saddled with the loss. Final score
was Bradford five Lake Simcoe 3 with Bradford taking the best of 3 series
two games to one. Bradford next faces the Claremont Rebels in the
Semi-finals of the OCDSA Playoffs.
