Mitchell, ON

Eighteen more games were played on three diamonds of Keterson Park in
Mitchell, as the South Perth Men's Fastball League continued with its
year-end playoff tournament Saturday.
When the scores were in - and many were highly-contested affairs as one
would expect - Sebringville Sting and Bridgeport Braves are the only two
remaining unbeaten teams, with perfect 3-0 records. They will face off with
one another at 11 a.m. Sunday for the right to reach the final and have to
be beaten twice not to capture the 2004 crown.
Sebringville spotted the Elmira Midgets an early 2-0 lead but battled back
for a 5-2 victory, then blanked the Tavistock Merchants 7-0 to remain
unbeaten. Bridgeport won three straight games Saturday, a 2-0 shutout
effort over Hickson Reds, then answered that with a comeback 7-6 8-inning
thriller over the Waterloo Hallman Jr. Twins. The Braves were down 3-0
early, but battled back themselves, finally winning a see-saw battle in the
first extra inning. They closed out their Saturday with a 3-2 win over the
Linwood Chiefs, as Jodie Schnarr hit a two-out single in the bottom of the
7th off Chiefs' ace Jamie Simpson to plate the winning run.
Also surviving to play tomorrow include Tavistock, who will take on the
Elmira Cubs, who won three straight games of their own on the loser's side
today, at 9 a.m. Sunday, with the loser going home. In the other 9 a.m.
tilt, Linwood will face the Hickson Reds, who played four games Saturday
alone and shook off their opening loss to Bridgeport with three straight
wins over Mitchell Mets, Breslau KJ Sox and Elora Rage to live another day.
