The Summerside Moosehead Greco Twins handed the Kinkora O'Sheas Pub and
Eatery Hitmen their second straight loss in game one of a Source for Sports
Men's Intermediate Fast Pitch league doubleheader at VIV Field in
Summerside Monday night.
The Hitmen rebounded, killing any momentum the Twins were trying to get
heading into this weekend's year-end league championship tournament, taking
game two 8-1.
In the first game, Scott Bridges (1-2, walk) scored the game winning run in
the fourth inning on an RBI double by Amos Perry (1-3). Other top leaders
at the plate were Ian Power (1-3, walk, RBI, stolen base), Daryl Yeo (1-4,
run scored) and Greg MacDonald (1-4).
For the Hitmen, Wade Smith (2-3, two singles), Pat McCardle (2-3, two
singles), Craig Manuel (1-4, RBI), Peter McCardle (1-3, double) and Matt
Dawson (1-3).
Winning pitcher Scott Bridges went the complete game, tossing a seven
hitter, giving up one run, walking one and fanning five. Losing pitcher
Craig Manuel went seven innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits,
walking two and striking out eight.
Game two was a different story, for both teams.
Kinkora came out wanting revenge, scoring one in the first, three in the
third and two runs each in the sixth and seventh on 12 hits to supplant
their 24th win of the year.
Leading the Hitmen were Wade Smith (3-5, two runs scored), Wayne Stewart
(3-4, run scored, two RBI), Kevin Warren (2-4, home run, run scored, two
RBI), Art MacDonald (2-4, RBI) and Hugh John McIver (1-3, walk, two runs
scored).
For the Twins, Darryl Yeo (1-3) was the lone Twin to hit a solid Kevin Warren.
Warren tossed a complete game, one hitter, walking one and fanning 12.
Losing pitcher Ian Power went to 1-1 with seven innings of 13 hit ball,
allowing eight runs (five earned), three walks and seven strikeouts.
HITMEN PLAY WED NIGHT
In the final doubleheader of the season, the Alberton A's make their second
road trip in three days down Hwy 2 towards Summerside as they face the
Hitmen at Queen Elizabeth Park's VIV Field. Game times are 7 and 9 p.m.
Fans are encouraged to come out and see a preview of what may be the
championship final at the league year-end tournament, which is set for
Friday to Sunday. The A's and defending league champion Hitmen also play at
9 p.m. Saturday in the last game of the round robin of the tournament.
