White Sox ready to double up

Wednesday December 8th 2004

Double headers will be the order of the day for the New Zealand Community
Trust White Sox during the New Zealand Community Trust Women's Series next
month.

The White Sox will be taking on Japan and the World All Stars during a
three day tri series at Smokefree Ballpark, Christchurch from January 14th
to 16th. During the series the White Sox will play double headers on the
first two days of the competition before the play offs on the final day.

White Sox coach Mike Walsh says the prospect of playing back to back games
on the first two days on the tournament will not be an issue for his side.
Walsh says double headers are common practice in tournament play now and
the team is just looking forward to the chance to play international class
softball.

"Players are used to playing back to back games and it is a good way to
keep momentum going," said Walsh.

The series opens with Japan playing the World All Stars at 1pm on the
Friday afternoon before the White Sox take on both sides in the late
afternoon and early evening. The White Sox play both sides again on the
Saturday ahead of the finals day on Sunday.

Softball fans across the country will also be able to follow the progress
of the White Sox on the final day as live coverage of both games on the
Sunday will be screened on TV2.

Softball New Zealand chief executive Hadyn Smith says women's softball has
not enjoyed live television coverage for many years and he believes the
decision to carry the final day live will be a real boost for the White
Sox as they head towards the 2006 World Championships and qualification for
the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
