Hutt Valley defend U19 girls championship title
Hutt Valley defend under 19 girls championship title
Thursday December 30th 2004
Hutt Valley have successfully defended their title at the New
ZealandCommunity Trust under 19 girls championships with their
unbeaten recordin round robin play seeing them through.
Bad weather at Braves Ballpark in Wanganui saw play abandoned
in thefourth inning of the final this afternoon between Hutt
Valley and HawkesBay. When rain made the game unplayable Hawkes
Bay were leading the final7-0 but because the fixture was abandoned
before the fifth inning it wasnot considered an official game.
The title was awarded to Hutt Valley because they were ranked
first atthe completion of round robin play and they beat Hawkes
Bay on the onlyother occasion the two sides met in the tournament.
Hawkes Bay beat the odds just to make the final today as they
went intothe top four playoffs this morning ranked fourth. First
up Hawkes Baybeat Wellington 11-0 and then they defeated Canterbury
5-1 to win theirway through to the final.
Hutt Valley pitcher Jessica Hau was a stand out performer on
the moundfor the champions. She was named top pitcher for the
tournament havingfaced 144 batters over 40 innings and giving
up just one earned run.Haus team mate Lara Andrews was named
top batter.
Tournament spokesperson Grant Clark says all attempts were made
by bothteams and ground staff to get the game completed but the
rain just didntlet up.

Hawkes Bay 11 Wellington 0, Hawkes Bay 5 Canterbury 1.
