Frankenmuth, MI
The Frankenmuth Fastpitch softball team has had a busy offseason and has
finalized plans to add three Newfoundlanders to its 2005 ISC roster. With
holdover Jason Hill already in the fold, the Frankenmuth team will have a
distinct Atlantic Canada flavor this season. In addition to Hill,
Frankenmuth will add pitchers Matt Bramwell and Blair Ezekiel along with
catcher Jon Kelly to its 2005 roster.
Ezekiel joins Frankenmuth full time this year after pitching for the
Driving School team in the 2004 Alvinston Jimmy Shaw tournament and the ISC
23 & Under tournament in Frankenmuth. Blair pitched the Driving School to
a 3rd place finish at the Shaw tournament and carried the team through the
loser's bracket of the 23 & Under tournament to a second place finish. He
earned 23& Under MVP honors with a 5-1 record on the hill and a batting
average of over .400. Ezekiel also helped The Bar of Appleton, WI, to a
third place finish at last year's ISC II Tournament of Champions. Ezekiel
has also led his NL provincial team to silver and bronze medals at the last
two Junior Canadian nationals.
Bramwell will join the team in August for the ISC World Tournament ins Eau
Claire, Wisconsin. Plans are also in the works to add Matt to the roster
for some of the team's weekend tournaments earlier in the season. Matt
throws hard and when not toeing up on the rubber can play anywhere on the
diamond. He will also be a nice addition to the midldle of the team's
young lineup. Matt led his local club team to the Provincial Senior Men's
Newfoundland title in 2004 while capturing MVP honors. He will also
represent his province at the Canadian Nationals in St. Thomas, Ontario, in
late August before joining Frankenmuth in Eau Claire. Matt played in last
year's world tournament with the Halifax Murphy's Fish & Chip's/Keith's.
Kelly will handle the bulk of the catching duties for Frankenmuth this
year. Jon will join his fellow Newfies in the middle of the Frankenmuth
lineup. Jon has hit .400 or better at the last three Junior Canadian
championships and has earned 2 All Canadian Team awards. He has proven
himself at the Junior level and is looking forward to making the jump to
Senior ball.
Manager Tom Stasik looks for these upgrades, along with this season's
improved pre-ISC schedule, to pay dividends at this year's World
Tournament. In addition, the Frankenmuth team has been in contact with a
former ASA All American and veteran of the Major circuit and hopes to have
him in the fold for ISC play soon. Stay tuned...
