2 die when car rear-ends snowplow on I-94

A gusting, swirling blizzard dumped more than a foot of snow on some parts
of the Milwaukee area, delighting children, sledders and skiers, but
confounding motorists, driveway shovelers and a slew of air travelers
stranded in their quest to reach warm-weather destinations.

While the storm itself seemed to pass without major incident, its aftermath
turned deadly.

Two people died late Saturday when the car they were traveling in
rear-ended a county snowplow on Interstate 94 just east of Highway 100,
said Milwaukee County Sheriff's Deputy Phil Wentzel. Two other occupants of
the car were injured, Wentzel said.

The accident happened about 9:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the
freeway, which were closed after the crash.

Snow storm dumps up to 13 inches across Wisconsin

As much as 13 inches of snow blanketed parts of Wisconsin Saturday,
canceling sporting events, closing museums and libraries and making travel
treacherous statewide as plows tried to keep up with blowing snow.

The snowstorm that made its way across the country Friday and lingered
through Saturday morning dumped between 5 and 11 inches in most parts of
Wisconsin, and lake effect snow off Lake Michigan caused some areas, such
as Milwaukee and Waukesha, to see a total of 13 inches.

''The main issue they are dealing with is the blowing snow,'' making
visibility poor, Milwaukee County sheriff's deputy Phil Wentzel said
Saturday. ''They go through with the plow and as soon as they go through it
comes right back. There's not a lot they can do with it.''

Two people died late Saturday when the car they were traveling in
rear-ended a snowplow on Interstate 94, Wentzel said. Two other occupants
of the car were also injured in the crash that shut down the eastbound
lanes of the freeway.
