Mitchell, ON

One less team and three fewer games for each of the remaining
20 teams
will play out when the 2005 season of the South Perth Men’s Fastball

League begins in earnest this spring.
At the league annual meeting in Tavistock last Tuesday, Feb.
1, it was
announced that one team, the Millbank AW Jr Millwrights, will
not play
this season, and have folded. The remaining 20 teams will play
a
23-game regular season: home-and-home against teams within their
own
newly-created five-team divisions, and once against the other
teams in
the league.
The division winners will earn the top four berths in the league’s

annual playoff tournament, set for mid-September in Mitchell,
with the
teams with the next best 12 win-loss records also qualifying
for the
year-end 16-team, double-knockout championship tourney.
Sebringville Sting captured the 2004 championship.
The divisions are as follows:
Smith Division - Mitchell, Fullarton, Monkton, Sebringville and
St.
Pauls
Egli Division - St. Marys, Tavistock, Shakespeare Colts, Shakespeare

Falcons, Hickson
Arand Division - Harriston, Milverton, Moorefield, Linwood, Elora
Thomson Division - Breslau, Bridgeport, Waterloo Jrs., Elmira
Cubs,
Elmira Jrs. (formerly the Midgets)
The Smith Division is named after the late Doug Smith, a longtime

fastball umpire from Mitchell, who died suddenly last year.
George Nahrgang, of Newton, is the new league president. The

vice-president is Doug Eidt, of Sebringville Sting;
secretary-statistician is Andy Bader; treasurer is Tim Wagler,
of
Shakespeare Colts and the four convenors are Greg Scheel, of
Breslau KJ
Sox; Sean McLaren, of Hickson Reds; Jeff Smith, of Monkton Muskrats
and
Jim Green, a Nithburg resident. Green has stepped down as president,

but will remain as a convenor.
The league’s regular season will begin in mid-May.
