Alvinston ON

Last evening, the Alvinston Indians were on the road in Shedden, for
game #2 of their best 2/3 opening series in St. Thomas and District
Fastball League Action. The local contingent were ready fro battle,
and right off the top, batted around in the opening inning, hitting
anything and everything, en route to an early 7-0 lead. Mike Black
opened the game with a walk for Alvinston, and Scott Smith came to
the plate, and hit a two-run bomb, to get the game going. With two
out in the inning, Doug Charlton, and Ryan Chapman hit consecutive
singles, before Jason Hope hit a line drive double down the line,
scoring both Chapman, and Charlton. Hope then crossed home for a 5-0
lead, on an RBI single by Jeff Huston. Then the following batter
Marc Greenwood, crushed another two-run home run for the Indians, for
an early 7-0 lead. Shedden would claw back with two runs in the
second, and one in the fifth, to close the gap to 7-3. But, the
Indians would respond with three runs of their own in the top fo the
sixth, when Doug Charlton hit a bases clearing 3 RBI double into the
gap, scoring Smith, Joe Triest, and Norm Logan. Now with the score
at 10-3, the Indians needed three outs in the bottom of the sixth, to
force the seven run mercy rule, which is what they did. The Indians
will now await the winners of the other three series', and it is
uncertain who will face the local squad next in playoff
action. Smith, Logan, Charlton, and Chapman, each had two hits in
the victory. Doug Charlton was the winning pitcher on the mound,
leaving many base runners stranded, and securing the victory.
